About this collection

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) published twenty-three issues of the Mount St. Helens Volcano Health Report between May 30, 1980 and February 23, 1981. These reports sponsored and encouraged public discourse on the real and potential impacts natural disasters can have on human health. Made widely available throughout the Pacific Northwest, this publication covered diverse topics related to public health outcomes connected to the eruption of Mount St. Helens, including respiratory health, pollution, and hazard management for cleanup workers.

FEMA published 33 issues of the Mount St. Helens Technical Information Network during 1980, following the St. Helens eruption.  These were designed to provide scientific information on the effects of the ash on individuals, equipment, crops, etc. in the eruption's aftermath.
