Radicals Are Warned
to Be Careful in
District.
Vigilantes have organized in
the Coeur d'Alenes.
Nonunion miners are wearing
white and blue "vigilante" buttons
today, in defiance of a reported
threat of the C. I. O. that it will
continue attempts to organize mine
employees, reports from the district
said.
Thousands of handbills were distributed in the mining district. The
handbills stated:
"Warning! Vigilantes are ready
to take care of any radical organizer. .Whistle code shall be used as
instructed. Ropes are ready. Coeur
Another figure was hanged in
effigy at the Sunshine mine, where
a C. 1. O. strike was abruptly ended
Saturday night.
A spokesman for the so-called
vigilante group said the effigy is
that of "a man named Murphy,"
who is reported to have taken up
the C. I. O. organization work of
Thomas F. McGuire, who left the
iistrict Saturday "under protest."
