Surveyors Will Map
Goodnews Bay Area--
Two geological survey parties
under the United States Department of the Interior will leave
Seattle on Saturday to make detailed topographic and geologic
maps of the area south of Good-
news Bay, Alaska, where much
mining is now in progress.
With the discovery of placer
platinum in this area in 1926 the
district has become one of Alaska's
most active mining fields.
J. B. Mertie, Jr., geologist, will
be in charge of one of the survey
parties, and Gerald Fitzgerald,
topographic engineer, will be in
charge of the other. Both groups
will sail aboard the steamship Aleu-
news Bay. 450 miles.
