POSTAL RECEIPTS
NEARING MILLION
"Spokane is on the way to a $1,000,000
postoffice rating."
This was the announcement today
of Postmaster Will W. Simpson,
as he checked November
postal receipts.
"The total of $84,850 exceeded by
$12,551 the total for November,
1935," Mr. Simpson said. "The biggest November business since 1929,
when it reached $85,047."
Receipts the first 11 months of
the year total $913,829, Mr. Simpson said, which is a gain of $60,-
751 over the same period in 1935.
Will Pass Million.
"If we do the same amount of
business this month we did last
December our receipts for the year
will be about $1,027,000," Mr. Simpson said. "That will not put Spokane back in the $1,000,000 class
because the office must run $100,-
000 over the million mark.
"However, if increase next year
is at the same rate as this year,
we will go into the $1,000,000 class
July 1, 1938. Spokane dropped out
of that class in 1930."
Tangible results from higher rating will include pay increases for
several employees, and addition of
several supervisors now badly needed, Mr. Simpson added.
