Four of the ten persons held in the
city jail on charges of "unlawful
assembly" in connection with a
demonstration at Lincoln High
School Monday were released today.
Bail of $25 each was supplied for
the four—Ole Roe, 56 years old;
Richard Welch, 19; Arthur Munt.
58, and Marie Martinson, 42. •
Six others remained in the jail
awaiting trial scheduled in Police
Court this afternoon. They were:
Seibert Boyd, 53; Elizabeth Boyd,
34; Pat Murphy, 32; Norwin Taylor, juvenile; Edward Heinricy, 40,
and George Curinton, 40.
The arrests came yesterday as a
climax to a dispute dating from
April 22, when 500 Lincoln High
School students participated in a
"peace strike." The "strikers" were
told by authorities they would be
barred from extra-curricular activities the rest of the year unless
they signed a pledge to observe
school regulations.
Yesterday, when- the signed
pledges were to be returned, some
200 students and adults assembled
in front of the building with
banners and signs. The arrests
were made when a second demonstration occurred about the time
Principal W. C. P. Meddins was
arranging to confer with a committee over the situation,
