Nine Suits Ask $29,937 From Camas Prairie Railroad— Engine Blamed.
BLAZE LAST JULY 29
Grain, Pasture, Fences and Stubble Lost in Snake River Conflagration.
COLFAX, Wash., Sept. 29.—Pending in court are nine damage cases in which farmers who lost in the field fire that swept along the Snake river
breaks last July 29 are suing the Camas Prairie Railroad company for a total of $29,937, alleging the blaze was caused by sparks from a freight engine.
The suits of Arthur and Dallas Cox, Mrs. R. W. Cox and Ole Veelle have been filed in superior court here, but the first may be ordered removed to federal district court because it involves more than $3000 and is between parties of different states, as the railroad company is incorporated under the laws of Oregon.
Go to Federal Court.
On petition of the defendant, orders of removal to the federal district court at Walla Walla have been granted in the cases of C. E. Cram,
Worley Horton, Reuben Heise and J. L. Knox. Demurrers in the suits of M. A. Carroll and E. D. Bailey have been filed in superior court here. The
complaints allege Carroll's loss to be $170 and Bailey's $676.
