Ephrata Meeting on July 28
to Consider Irrigation District Formation.
First steps will be taken this
month in a program eventually to
transform 1,200,000 acres of the
Columbia basin into an agricultural
wonderland, through the magic of
the mammoth Grand Coulee dam.
Landowners in the basin area
will meet at 1 p. m. Wednesday,
July 28, in the Grant county
courthouse, Ephrata, to consider
forming a Columbia basin irrigation district.
Right Time.
Decision to hold the meeting is
said to be based on the opinion
of bureau of reclamation officials
lhat "Ihe time is none to early
to start formation of a district."
Sponsors of the meeting said
Frank A. Banks, bureau of reclamation engineer in charge of
Grand Coulee construction, and
B. E. Stoutemeyer, western general legal advisor for the bureau,
will explain to the meeting the
necessity for a district.
Governor Martin, J. B. Fink, director of conservation and development, and A. C. Martin, state
land commissioner, are being invited.
Plans will be discussed whereby
all landowners who do not wish
to have their lands reclaimed and
irrigated by the basin project
may have their property excluded
from the district.
