At a conference this afternoon in the office of Senator Jones, the delegation
representing the Columbia Basin
league met with members of the
Washington congressional delegation
and agreed upon the following bill1
to be introduced simultaneously in
senate and house authorizing the
building of the Columbia basin irrigation project:
"Be it enacted, that land in the
eastern part of Washington, era-
as the Columbia basin project, or all
lands that may be embraced within
the boundaries of such project as
may be finally determined by the
and the necessary funds to determine
and carry on such project are hereby
authorized to be appropriated from
funds In the treasury of the United
States not otherwise appropriated.
This project should be carried on,
developed, dealt with in every respect
and pursuant to the terms and oondi.
This bill will be Introduced In the
senate by Senators Jones and Dill,
acting jointly, and in the house by
dative Summers, most of the
land lying in his district. If the
senate'accepts bills tomorrow, the
bill will be introduced then; if not,
It will be held back in both houses,
and introduced at both ends of the
capitol on the same day. Automatically, the bill will be referred to the
committees on irrigation and tentative arrangements have been made to
hold hearings in January.
