An expansion and improvement program involving expenditure of at least $75,000 in
the Spokane area this year was
announced today by R. V.|
Hughes, district manager of
Union Service Stations, Inc.
Union Service Stations is a new corporation formed January 1 as a sub-|
sidiary of the Union Oil company of
California to own and operate the
parent company's service station prop-
Fifteen in City.
Forty stations in this district, comprising eastern Washington and eastern Oregon, have been taken over by I
the new corporation. About 15 of these
are in Spokane.
These stations all are to be improved at from $500 to $3000 or $4000
expenditure apiece to bring them up
to standard, Mr. Hughes said. The
majority will be made into one-stop
super-service stations.
While plans for this year call principally for remodeling present owned)
stations, another six or seven stations
will be added here in Spokane, said
Mr. Hughes.
Negotiations for three are now in
progress. Three new stations are
planned also, at a cost of more than
$25,000.
About 50 more jobs will be created
in the territory, Mr. Hughes said.
Station operators all are to be given
a course of training at a school here.
Much Advertising.
Union Service Stations, Inc., is
taking over all Union Oil stations up
and down the coast, Mr. Hughes said,
and the company plans to spend
$250,000 on advertising, principally in
newspapers.
Stations where improvements . are
inned here include one at
Sixth and Washington, where $3000
will be spent; another at Monroe and
Boone, and a third at Sprague and
Grant. Covered stalls for greasing,
washing and tire and battery changing will be built at all three.
"In addition to our improvement
program, we also have obtained authority from the company to purchase practically all our service station supplies for this district here in
Spokane." said Mr. Hughes. I
