SPLENDID RECORD MADE BY BAYLIS.
SPOKANE STUDENT WINS HARVARD TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP -- YEAR ABROAD.
One of the most phenomenal educational records ever established by a Spokane student has culminated in the winning of the HArvard traveling fellowship by Charles A. Baylis, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Baylis, S309 Wall street.
Announcement of this award has been received by his parents here. IT gives $1200 to young Baylis and a year of study in England, France Italy and Germany, including work at Oxford, Heidelberg and Paris universities.
And back of this fellowship is a record of student achievements which date back to public school days in Portland, where in the high school he was editor in chief of the school publication, the Cardinal.
Is Phi Beta Kappa.
Entering the University of Washington, he won his B. A. degree and at the same time won Phi Beta Kappa honors as one of 12 to be given this recognition out of a class of 847.
He next won a $200 scholarship at the university and was graudated with magna cum alude honors and an M. A. degree.
Receiving scholarship of $250 each to Columbia and Harvard, he chose Harvard.
In his first year there he won the Thayer scholarship for $500 and has now graduated from Harvard with his Ph. D. degree and the traveling fellowship.
During the summer of 1924-25 he taught philosophy at the University of Washington, and has earned practically his entire way through school.
