HALIBUT CATCHES REVEAL INCREASES IN TWO AREAS
The 1936 halibut catch in areas 2 and 3, the most productive areas off the Pacific coast, totaled 25 per cent greater than the 1935 catch,
which doubtless accounts for the
early closing of all four off-shore
areas, which became effective August 10 under an order of the international fisheries commission.
The 1936 catch in the big areas
totaled 38,400,000 pounds, compared
with 30,700,000 pounds landed during the same period last year. The
catches of areas 1 and 4 are not
considered important.
