U. S. TROOPS ARE RUSHED TO FOOCHOW
WASHINGTON, Jan. 15.— (U.E) — American, Japanese and British forces have been landed in Foochow, scene of recent fighting between Chinese rebels and nationalists, the navy department was advised today by Admiral Frank B. Upham, commander of the United States Asiatic squadron.
The dispatches said requests for the landing parties to protect foreign citizens and property were made by the foreign consuls in view of the unsettled conditions following the rout of ;the rebels. Admiral Upham said the marines would be used to guard the U. S. consulate until responsible Chinese government forces could take over the situation. He said the government troops had been promised shortly.
