YAKIMA COUNTY
BUDGET REDUCED
YAKIMA, Oct. 6.—Announcement was made today that the
Yakima county commissioners have
adopted the county's 1938 budget.
It showed a decrease of 4 per cent
from the 1937 budget. The new
budget totaled $469,059, as compared with $491,376. The current
expense fund for the next year
will total $257,765, as compared
with this year's fund of $267,184.
The welfare program in Yakima
county during the coming year will
cost $103,143, a sharp decrease
from the 1937 budget which provided $160,823.
School Fund Less.
The county school fund this year
got $42,976 in. the budget, as compared with $58,976 a year ago and
$14,556 was provided for the emergency airport bond issue. The county road district fund was allotted
$60,125.
The major departments of the
county were provided increases
in the budget as follows: Prosecuting attorney, $11,734, an increase
of $1984; assessor, $21,020, increase
S2965; sheriff, $30,330, increase
$4757; superior courts, $24,998, increase $8355; treasurer, $45,995, increase $6150; superintendent of
schools, $10,830, increase $1288; auditor, $34,120, increase $7162; clerk,
$10,965, increase $1836, and the
commissioners, $9081, increase $801.
