INDIA ALWAYS BRITISH
Will Run Own Affairs But Under
Union Jack, Says Viceroy.
SIMLA, India, June 28. </4»)—Viceroy Lord Willingdon, delivering his
first public speech since he became
head of the government in India,
expressed the conviction that the
overwhelming majority of the princes
and people in India desire continuance of the ties to Great Britain.
"The character of the administration in India will be different from
what it has been," he said, "for we
are all working rapidly toward the
time when Indians will take over administration of their own affairs, to
the time when they will become absolutely equal partners with the other
dominions under the crown. But I
am confident that that administration when it comes will be under the
flag of the British empire."
