GOLD IS LURING MEN TO ALASKA
WASHINGTON, Aug. 11. (/P)— Once again the lure of gold is drawing men to Alaska in large numbers. This information was transmitted
to American Red Cross headquarters here in an official report to Chairman John Barton Payne from A. L. Schafer, Red Cross manager in the
Pacific area, who has Just returned to San Francisco from the territory.
Schafer's report said there had been a "tremendous influx" of steerage passengers, attracted by the prospects of gold mining, into Alaska.
