Navy obtains 19 recruits- drive for apprentice seamen now under way.
Thirty nine recruits for the army were obtained here yesterday, the first working day since the final rush of registrants ended noon saturday. Of these, the army got 20, including 12 from Washington, seven from montana, and one from Idaho. All were either under or over draft age. Surgeon J. A. B. Sinclair, in charge of the navy recruiting station,
received Word from headquarters at
Portland, stating it was swamped with
the end of the week recruits and that 300 men were waiting to get their
finger prints recorded. "Your (Spokane) quota probably exceeds ours,"
the communication said.
"We are beginning a big drive from
now until Washington's birthday to get our quota of 680 apprentice seamen," said Dr.
