Description
Gue Owen , a Christian Chinese American from Grangeville and Lewiston , Idaho . Gue Owen arrived in Idaho from China at the age of twelve and worked as a miner in Elk City before becoming a cook in the Lewiston and Grangeville area for several prominent families . Gue Owen obtained his surname from a Mrs . Owen , an employer who taught him the art of making bread . Owen attended shool and perfected his English while in Grangeville . In 1899 he ran the Kwong Lung Laundry in Lewiston before returning to the trade of domestic servant . Gue Owen returned to China sometime after 1900 . Donated by Sister M . Alfreda Elsensohn .
