Description
On July 3 1911 , the people of Okanogan and surrounding towns held a flag raising ceremony in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Hudson Bay Company's Fort Okanogan . Mr . H . H . Gilstrap of the Washington State Historical Society attended (center , dark suit and white mustache) and gave a speech on the fort's historical significance to the travelers and expeditions of its time . The Society agreed to furnish a granite monument for the site . Judge William C . Brown of Okanogan (beside him right , holding hat) also spoke--on the discovery of the Okanogan River by David Thompson in July 1811 . From left to right : Jack Flannighan of Okanogan , unknown , Mr . Baptis of Wenatchee and the Okanogan Steamboat Company . The two women are Hatty and Lucy Freer , (Lucy holding a small child) and behind them is James Gard of Okanogan . In between William C . Brown and H . H . Gilstrap in back is Mayor Harry J . Kerr . To the left of Edwin Ells is Mr . Clark Evans , manager of the Hoo Hoo Ranch . To the right of the American Flag with his arms crossed is Forest Supervisor H.M . Hale .
