Photograph of John Pinkham , a Nez Perce warrior , who fought in the Nez Perce Wars of 1877 . This young man , who was given the name "Eloosykasit " along with five other men escaped the fighting at the Big Hole Battle . The group successfully reached their home on the Nez Perce Reservation in Lapwai , Idaho without being discovered by government troops . Eventually , he was sent to the Indian territory with other prisoners .

Format
Original photographic prints were scanned at 24 bit color, with 3000 pixels by the long side, for master TIFF files on an Epson Expression 10,000 XL scanner. Prints were then scanned at 24 bit, with 600 pixels by the long side, as jpeg files. These JPEGs were then added to the CONTENTdm database at WSU Libraries.
