DEATH CLAIMS F. C. HARPER, 81
Frederick Crane Harper, chairman of the Republican state committee in 1916 and collector of customs here from 1906 to 1915, died this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rex Smith, 1342 12th Ave. S. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Harper emigrated to Port Townsend, where he entered the real estate business in 1887, from New Brunswick, Canada. He moved to East Sound in 1892. There he was elected state senator and operated a mercantile business. He came to Seattle in 1899.
Town Named for Him
The town of Harper, Kitsap County, was named for Mr. Harper, after he built a brickyard there in 1900.
Mr. Harper was a partner in the Harper Barge & Lighterage Company here until his retirement in 1918. He had resided at Harper since the death of his wife, Clorinda Y. Harper, last April. They had been married fifty-eight years.
Four Children Survive
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Ross Chesnut, Seattle, and two sons, Joseph C. Harper, Seattle, and Capt. Robert W. Harper, Army Air Corps, stationed at Maxwell Field, Montgomery, Ala., and eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 o'clock tomorrow at the Home Undertaking Company, followed by cremation. The ashes will be placed in Evergreen Memorial Park.
