COVERED WAGON WOMAN DIES
Mrs. Mary J. Hill Came West to Pioneer Days.
In the death of Mrs. Mary J. Hill,
the pioneer ranks have lost another
early-day settler who crossi
to a covered wagon. Mrs. Hill
died February 18 at E1617 Twelfth,
and following funeral services at Hazen & Jaeger, with the Rev. J. F. Fryer officiating, her body was taken to Spangle for burial.
Mrs. Hill and her husband, who died five years ago last October, were
both born in Virginia. Their families
came to Oregon, and they were married in Portland in 1878. Mr. and
Mrs. Hill homesteaded four miles
south of Spangle, and remained on
their 400 acres until eight years ago.
Mrs. Hill was 77, July 17, 1931. Of
14 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Hill,
11 are living. Mrs. Hill also left 20
grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Her immediate family consists of
nine daughters, Mrs. Minnie Hardesty,
Mrs. Delia Dorsey, Mrs. Artie Alleman,
of Rosalia; Mrs, Lela Peters, Mrs.
Sadie Fisk, Mrs. Susie Donahoe and
Mrs. Dora Nickerson, of Spokane;
Mrs. Nellie Flaig and Mrs. Hattie1
Flaig, of Spangle; two sons, Ervin
Hill of Spangle and Orie Hill of
Plaza. A. M. and William Pullen of Portland, Ore., are brothers.
