PIONEER RESIDENT PASSES TUESDAY
Funeral Services Held This Afternoon At Methodist Church For Mrs. William Kelly
Lynden said farewell this afternoon to another of its pioneer citizens when funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Effle Jackman Kelly, wife
of William H. Kelly, who passed away at her home in this city Tuesday at 6 p.m. after a long illness.
The Rev. M. J. Perdue officiated
at the final services. Burial was
made in the family plot in the
Lynden Cemetery under the direction of Knapp and Knapp.
Mrs. Kelly was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Jackman, early pioneer family of the
Lynden district. She was born at Plainsfield, Iowa, on February 10, 1865, and spent her early life in
that state.
When a girl of about 20 years,
Mrs. Kelly came to the Lynden
district and made her home with
her brother for a year. On February 23, 1885, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly
rode from the old Jackman place
on horseback to Whatcom (now
part of Bellingham) and were
married, after which the couple
returned to Iowa.
Coming back to Whatcom county about thirty-two years ago, Mrs. Kelly had made her home in this district since that time. She was
an active worker in the M. E. Ladies Aid Society and in the Women's Christian Temperance Union and had been a member of the Methodist Church since a young age.
Mr. and Mrs. Kelly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1935. Both were members of the Golden Wedding Club.
At the time of her death, Mrs.
Kelly was 72 years, two months
and three days eld. Scores of
friends mourn her passing as well as the surviving members of the
family who include the husband,
two sons, Alva of Lynden and
Clyde of Berkeley, California; two
sisters, Mrs. Emma Arnold of San
Diego, California, and Mrs. Grace
Smith of Seattle; two brothers,
S. T. and W. H. Jackman of Lynden, and one granddaughter at
Berkeley.
