PIONEER DIES SUN.
Daniel Boone, 80, Has Lived
Near Pullman For
About 60 Years
Daniel Boone, 80, pioneer of the
Union Flat district in Whitman
county, died Sunday afternoon at
His widow and eight children
steaded 60 years ago. Mr. Boone
was born July 19, 1855, in Illinois. He came west, homesteaded
and then returned to Illinois
where he was married to Miss
Nannie Williams. They returned
to his homestead near Pullman
where they have since resided.
The old Boone home is one of
the beauty spots on Union Flat.
Mr. Boone brought acorns from
Illinois and planted them and
later he replanted them into what
is now a beautiful grove. He also
brought holly and other shrubbery from his old home. For more
than 40 years neighbors and
friends have gathered to celebrate
various affairs, one of which was
always Mr. Boone's birthday. The
first celebration was held more
than 40 years ago with 32 neighbors and friends present.
The past several affairs have
been held in the beautiful grove
which he planted. Last July more
than 500 were present. Mr. and
Mrs. Boone were the parents of
nine children. One son John, was
killed about three years ago while
out hunting.
His widow and eight children
survive him. They are Mrs. Frances Brewer, Mrs. Bertha Hood,
Daniel, Jr., Mrs. George Marshall
and Mrs. Charles Marshall
(twins), and Miss Louise Boone all
residing near their parents and
Mrs. Millie Shaw of Woodburn,
Ore., and Mrs. Elizabeth VanMe-
ter of Olney, Ill. Time of the
funeral has not been announced.
