Heart Trouble Causes Death of Mrs. Durham.
In a quiet slumber from which she had scarcely regained consciousness for nearly four days, Mrs. N. W. Durham, pioneer and one of the best-known women of the city, passed away at 2 o'clock this morning at her home. S1303 Sheridan street, in Rockwood addition. Mrs. Durham had been ill with heart trouble for six months.
Since March, 1890, Mrs. Durham's home had been in Spokane. She came to the city after residing in Portland for seven years. She was a real pioneer. A native to Calais, Maine, where she was borth, August, 1860, she came west with her parents when only 4 years old, the trip being made by way of Isthmus. She was educated in the public schools of Forest Grove, Ore., and at Pacific university of the same place.
She was married at Hillsboro, Ore., August 23, 1882, and made her home in Portland until coming to Spokane. During the Spanish war Mrs. Durham was one of the active workers in the Spokane chapter of the Red Cross. During the recent war she devoted her energies chiefly to the civilian relief of the local chapter.
