Rosary Tonight For E.A. Boyd.
Rosary for Ernest A. Boyd, 57, president of Boyd-Conlee, who died Wednesday following the amputation of his right leg, will be held at 8:15 this evening at the Smith Funeral home. Mr. Boyd had been recognized for a number of years as one of the outstanding grain dealers in the northwest. He came to the Inland Empire 30 years ago and opened a grain store at Almira. Later, with Herbert Coulee, he purchased the Spokane Feed and Fuel company on north Division and founded the present Boyd-Conlee feed and grain firm here. Led Grain Men. Mr. Boyd served as president of the Pacific Northwest Grain Dealers' association, and also served a term as president of the Washington State College Fathers' association. He was affiliated with the City and University club, Chamber of Commerce, Retail Merchants' association, Manito Golf and Country club and the Spokane Transportation club. He was formerly a member of the Elks' lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary B. Boyd, at the home, S1818 Jefferson; a daughter, Betty, at Washington State college; two sons, Herbert Henry and Ernest Alfred Jr., Spokane; three brothers, Benjamin, Taylorville, Ill.; W. L., San Diego, and Stell Boyd, Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. E. S. Cole, Champaign, Ill.; Mrs. Harry O. Johnston, Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Hayes Merrin, Decatur, Ill.
REV. NICHOLAS MERTZ. The Rev. Nicholas Mertz, 54, formerly holding pastorates at Tekoa, Chewelah, Wilbur, Sprague and Kennewick, died today at his home in Otis Orchards. He is survived by six brothers, Joseph, Charles, Edward and Alphonse Mertz, all of Belgium; Victor, Otis Orchards, and the Rev. Louis J. Mertz, Aurora, Cal.; two sisters, Marie Elise Mertz, Otis Orchards, and Mary, in Belgium. The body is at Hennessey & Calloway's.
