Barbara Jones 03-15-2005 Interviewed by Nicole Schoenle Side I 0-3 Remembered the end of World War II. Sirens were going off and people were out in the streets dancing. People came home from the war very reluctant to talk about it. 3-6 Went to church twice on Sunday and once on Wednesday night at the Church of Christ. Moved from California to Alaska. Learned how to ski at Artie Valley. 6-9 There was 24 hours of daylight so you could water ski at midnight. Grandpa Terver worked as a cook during the Gold Rush in Alaska. He bought a cottage on Fox Island and put Shetland ponies on it. 9-12 Started work at Boeing doing quality control. Published the quality control manuaL Whenever a new modification to the manual was done I would go out and move all over the plant and replace the deficient pages. 12-15 Morrison and Knutson made an early warning system called the Duline Site. I was MK60BARBARA and talked to all the sites and the air traffic. Working for Boeing at the time the World's Fair came to Seattle. 15-18 Went through High School, but father died when she was young so money was tight. Didn't go on to college, but helped mom by paying room and board. Brother came home from Korea. At that time all men were drafted and required to serve. 18-21 Put $1,000 down on a house, which at the time cost $15,000. Worked as a secretary for Boeing on 2nd shift. No longer married to Russ and is looking for a condo. 21-24 Worked at a job called Government Furnish Property Management. It was mainly a man's field, only 2 or 3 women. 24-27 Travel to warm places in the winter like Arizona and stay in Pacific Northwest in the spring, summer, and fall. Work part-time in exchange for free rent for her RV at National or State Parks. End Interview

Digitization | Original audio cassettes were converted to wav files using Audacity and a USBPre interface. Mp3 files were then created from the wav files for online access. Film clips were created as mpeg-4 files using Adobe Premiere Elements 9 to add selected images to the wav audio files. Print documents were scanned to pdf format using a Xerox Workcentre 5030 copier/scanner. |
