Description | 60 minute oral history with Marie Elisabeth (Betty) Hinrichs Manring, conducted for a Women in the West (HST 398 course) at Washington State University. Discusses childhood on the farm, working the land, making food, and preserving the food by canning and drying. Married to high school sweetheart; moved to California for a couple or years and moved back to Pullman to a farm. Had modern conveniences of indoor plumbing, heated house and gas engine washing machine. Discusses college life and life as a house mother for WSU sorority, manners, and rules. Working at WSU secretary in many departments, wrote for the evergreen newspaper and a magazine for her hold sorority. |
