Hillary Sterrenburg Women's Studies 398 Spring 2001 Index of Interview The interview is approximately one hour in length. It begins on side A and ends on side B. The interviewer is Hillary Sterrenburg age 24, granddaughter to the narrator. The narrator is Esther Moiese Fulk age 86. The interview was conducted Sunday April 15th, 2001, at the home of Esther Moiese Fulk in Granger Washington. ~nute 1: Description of where she was born. ~nute 6: Description of move from Montana to Yakima valley and how they had no electricity. ~nute 9: Had tonsils removed and decided she wanted to become a nurse. ~nute 13: Discussion of career options for the time. ~nute 18: Discussion of marriage and WWII starting. ~nute 20: Discussion of her move to Seattle. That was a significant time in her life. ~nute 24: Discussion of ethnic groups and her experiences. ~nute 28: Discussion of religion and the role it played in her life. ~nute 32: Remembers when women got the right to vote. Description | 82 minute oral history with Esther Fulk, conducted for a Women in the West (HIST 398 course at Washington State University). She discusses being born on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana and her early childhood raised in Washington on a farm. She married an Army man and chose not to go to nursing school. She describes her experiences during the great Depression and the effects of World War II. Eventually, Esther and her family settled in Granger, Washington and she worked as a beautician. |

Film clips were created as mpeg-4 files using Adobe Premiere Elements 9 to add selected images to the wav audio files. Print documents were scanned to pdf format using a Xerox Workcentre 5030 copier/scanner. |
