Description | 45 minute oral history with Erna Holeman, conducted for a Women in the West (HIST 398 course at Washington State University). She describes her early childhood growing up on a farm in Germany. She discusses her life in a small town and social expectations for women's education in her community. She was nineteen at the beginning of World War II and she describes the impact it had on her village. She was divorced with two children when she met, then married an American soldier. They moved to the U.S. and traveled around due to husbands military career. She discusses the differences between Germany and the U.S. |

Digitization | Original audio cassettes were converted to wav files using Audacity and a USBPre interface. Mp3 files were then created from the wav files for online access. Film clips were created as mpeg-4 files using Adobe Premiere Elements 9 to add selected images to the wav audio files. Print documents were scanned to pdf format using a Xerox Workcentre 5030 copier/scanner. |
