These Pullman Tribunes are housed on microfilm (AN48.P8 T7x) in the Holland Library at WSU.

The Pullman Tribune and other papers:

The Pullman Tribune was established in 1891, with J.J. Murray and H.M.Brainard as its sponsors.  It went through a succession of owners and publishers, and in 1906 was purchased by In 1906 the newspaper was purchased by L.E. Wenham and W.L. Wenham, who retained ownership until it was finally absorbed into the rival Pullman Herald in 1919.  The final issue was published on April 3, 1919.

Other Pullman newspapers included the Pullman News, 1906-1911, and the short-lived Daily World, early 1890s, which lasted only a few weeks.  The Pullman Herald, which purchased the Tribune, had began publication in 1888, and ceased publication in 1988.  In 1984, the Daily Idahonian (Moscow, ID) began publishing the Palouse Empire News, which covered local news in Pullman and Whitman County; that became the Daily News, and in 1991 the Idahonian and the Daily News merged to become the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, which continues today.  Other papers in the region which may prove helpful in documenting Pullman's development and history include Washington State University's Evergreen (1892-), various Colfax, WA or Moscow, ID papers, and Spokane's Spokesman-Review (1883-) or Daily Chronicle (1881-1982).

Creating the Database:

University Archivist Mark O'English originated the project, designed the metadata schemas, and designed this page. Microfilm pages were scanned and OCRed as 300 dpi color pdfs on an e-Image Data ScanPro 2000 microfilm scanner by WSU students Drew Neyens, Jennifer Rodriguez, and Priya Bhatia, under the supervision of Digital Projects Coordinator Doug Lambeth.  The pdfs were organized and renamed using Adobe Acrobat X and then uploaded into CONTENTdm. Cindy Ellis provided technical support for CONTENTdm. Jeff Kuure designed the banner.
