Description
This editorial cartoon depicts a scene in which women are cordoned off from the ballot box by sinister looking male figures . A mournful Uncle Sam reluctantly holds the gate which keeps out the women voters . Included is a quote by Abraham Lincoln which states , "I go for all sharing the privileges of government who assist in bearing its burdens , by no means excluding women. " This item was one of several found in the Homer Hill collection . Hill was a prominent publisher and politician in Seattle during the late 1880s early 1900s , and it appears he took at least a minor interest in the struggle of women
