When Oregon went beserk: The Gold Rush |
Description |
When Oregon went beserk: The Gold Rush. - With suppression of the Indian uprising planned to exterminate all whites from the Pacific ocean to Rocky mountains and from Mount Shasta to British Columbia, the country east of the Cascades was thrown open to settlement, marking the second phase of Oregon's most sensational decade. It was the gold rush, to be followed by an orgy of crime and reaching a climax and close with the disciples of direct action, the vigilantes / by John W. Kelly . Gold had been found in southern Oregon, and miners were murdered in that region during the Indian uprising, but the great gold rush was to come later, starting in 1858 and continuing for eight riotous, rip-roaring years in the area east of the Cascades. |
