Gold in village street - old Oregon mining town may regain former activity |
Description |
Gold in village street - old Oregon mining town may regain former activity - Jacksonville, Ore., a roaring mining camp 60 years ago, now nearly a deserted village, may return to its former glories, if gold panning started recently on its main street continues to show profitable results. Some time ago Joseph Langwell, verteran miner, sank a shaft on California street and yesterday before the eyes of the village residents brought out $10 of the yellow metal in one panning. He claims he has struck a rich ledge and has engaged two men to help him. The shaft is about 30 feet and is operated by an old-fashioned hoist and rocker. |
