Three young college men of state quickly win promotion in army |
Description |
Recent word received at Pullman tells of the promotion of a trio of Western Washington young men who a short time ago cut short their college work to go into the army. One is R. M. Finney, of Olympia, who played guard on the football team of the college that defeated Brown university at Pasadena in 1915. C. W. King, enrolled at Washington State college from Seattle last year, is a second lieutenant of infantry. Finney is a first lieutenant. J. H. Binns, of Shelton, while a student at the State college, won the appointment as Rhodes scholar from Washington. He went to Oxford university, England, last spring, shortly before the United States declared war on Germany. Upon the declaration of war, Binns returned to America and offered his services. His promotion is to a second lieutenancy. |
