Many matters of vital importance
were touched upon in the course of
Mrs, Sweeley's addresses before the
assembly, some of them which were:
women's dress, the moral training
; of our children, the prevalence of
divorce and the light esteem in which
it is held; club .women's interest
in our state institutions, especially
those in which women and children
j are housed; the loan scholarship
■ fund, which was fully explained, and
| the rate bill "for the benefit of the

Every Day Art.
Thursday forenoon Miss Leiby, instructor in art in the University of
Idaho, gave an address on "Every
Day Art," which was helpful, practical and thoroughly enjoyed.
The reports of the standing committee were heard on Thursday forenoon. The heads of committees reporting- were as follows: Committee
on health, Mrs. O. D. Piatt of St. Maries; legislative committee, Mrs. J.
R. Forney of Moscow; conservation
committee, Mrs. William George of
Coeur d'Alene; civil service committee, Mrs. C. J. Wright of Burke; loan
scholarship committee, Mrs. A. W.
Haley of Coeur d'Alene.
Thursday afternoon the Convention
was entertained by Mrs. Noel H.
Taylor of Rathdrum with two readings. These were followed *■ by an
address on "The Three Aidtfk Educational, Civic and Economic Aids in
a More Normal Condition/' by Miss
Pearmeal French, dean of womf.n,
University of Idaho. This practical
and helpful address was followed by
a general discussion of several timely topics.
Friday morning's address was by
Mrs. E. N. Walton of Tacoma. Her
theme was "Americanization." Many
valuable suggestions were made to
show how great good can be accomplished in this most worthy cause.
ST. MARIES, Idaho, Oct. 18.—The
17th annual meeting of the Idaho i
third district federation of women's
clubs was held in this city October
15 to 17 inclusive. This.was the first
meeting in the district since the entrance of the United States into the
war and it proved an occasion of
great pleasure and much benefit to
those in attendance. Commendable
enthusiasm was evinced in the plans
for the future of the clubs represented.
At each session of the convention,
all of which were held in the Masonic temple, pleasing musical numbers by local talent were given. On
Wednesday evening, ^ October 15, a
reception was tendered the state
president, Mrs. Alice Jean Sweeiey of
Twin Falls, the district officers, >he
delegates and visitors from the clubs
represented. On Thursday evening
a banquet was served at which the
newly elected district president, Mrs.
O. D. Piatt of St. Maries, presided
as toastmistress. A spirit of good
cheer and good fellowship prevaded
all the sessions of the convention
and will give the attending club
women a pleasant memory of the occasion.
Address of Welcome.
Wednesday's session was opened
with an invocation by the Rev. Mr.
Renter, which was followed by an
address of welcome by H. E. Hunt
representing the city of St. Maries.
The president of the woman's study
club of St. Maries, Mrs. E. L. Stick-
ney, gave a cordial greeting to the
visitors, which was followed by a response by Mrs. ,D. E. Drennan of
Coeur d'Alene. The routine work
of the convention occupied the greater part of the forenoon session.
Notable among the many good
things which the sessions contained
was the presence of the state president, Mrs. Alice Jean Sweeiey, at
each session. Her helpful suggestions, timely advice and wise coun-

An important event of the closing
session was the addition of four
memorials subscribed to the loan
scholarship fund. These memorials
are dedicated to the lads who gave
themselves to the service of our country and were subscribed as follows:
one by the third district, one by the
St. Maries high school, and one each
by Dr. and Mrs. D. E. Cornwall of St
Maries.
