Another Wholesale Slaughter of Reds Is Reported From China
SHANGHAI, China, Feb. 22,—(/p)— Dispatches from Canton say that 1700 alleged Communists, both men and women, have been executed by Canton troops after their capture east of the city on February 20. The Cantonese also captured 600 members of a girls' Communist corps
in the same area, but these have not been executed. Northward of Canton 800 reds were made prisoners and hundreds of rifles captured.
Pang-Pai, widely known Communist organizer, in Fukien province, is stated to have been murdered by villagers in his native town, who photographed his corpse, then cut it into 10 pieces for general distribution and exhibition. His head was sent to Canton with the idea
of discouraging red activities. The Central Bank in Canton has repudiated all notes issued, prior to 1928 and is issuing $1,000,000 Mexican in
new notes.
