WASHINGTON, Jan. 20.—Completion of the work of surveying and dividing into leasing units the more accessible part of the Tanana coal field in Alaska was announced tonight by Secretary Lane, with notice that the blocks soon would be offered for lease. Coal in the field is said to be lignite of fair grade, which will be used by the Alaskan railway, by Tanana river boats and by local consumers.
