Alaska University Enrollment Makes Record High Mark
JUNEAU. Alaska, Oct. 1-The University of Alaska, situated at College, near Fairbanks, opened Sept. 13 with the largest enrollment in its history, it is announced here. One hundred and sixty-four students fulfilled their entrance requirements within the first two days.
Approximately 40 who have made reservations, having been delayed for various reasons, are expected to complete their registrations within
a short time, which will bring the 1937-38 files easily up to 200 students. Besides these, the university every year conducts well-filled
classes of short courses in mining and prospecting.
The school of mines attracts the most attention of any department, inasmuch as the university is located in a vast, undeveloped, highly mineralized country and is therefore able to give its students a practical experience such as is available to only a few institutions
Besides the Alaska students, who comprise the largest number of registrations, there are young men and women from various parts of the
United States, including a goodly number from California. Washington. Oregon, Montana. Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana, with a scattering few from other states. '
