State’s Truck Treaty Just Scrap of Paper
The Washington-Idaho reciprocal agreement concerning commercial vehicles has been virtually “junked” by Emmitt H. Pfost, Idaho commissioner of law enforcement, in the opinion of Frank W. Guilbert, manager of the Inland Automobile association.
The so-called reciprocal agreement provided for interstate commercial travel without requiring vehicles to carry licenses of both states, so long as no intrastate business is done in the foreign state.
However, local authorities in Idaho will not be interfered with if they make arrests in violation of the agreement, according to a statement made by Mr. Pfost to the Chronicle.
“Reciprocal agreements are not made by authority of any statute and are merely binding between those who are aware of their existence,” Mr. Pfost said. “All officers working directly under this department will recognize this agreement.
