Grabs Three First Places At Camp Reed-Hornet's Nest Causes Trouble. Frederick Mick, taking first place in three events, was high point winner in the field meet held this week at Camp Reed at Fan Lake, the Y.M.C.A. summer camp for boys. Cabin 1, of which Jack Bradley is director, won the meet with 27 points the baseball series and is leading in the volley ball and horseshoe tournament, according to H.K. Ghormley, boys' secretary, who returned from the lake this morning and reported one of the best weeks in the history of the camp. Mick tok first in the running high jump, the standing broad jump and the 50 yard dash. Of the 16 boys who participated in the meet the following were high point winners: Frederick Taylor, Howard Tracy, Eddy Buck, Howard Todd and Ed Adams. Eddy Allen took first honors on fish day with a catch of 28 fish, with Gordon Wells second with 24. The contest took place on Tuesday. Cabin 1 also won first place in three cabin inspections during the week, although the competition on inspection was close., according to Mr. Ghormley. Outside of the athletic events of the week a number of other interesting things have taken place at the camp. A hike to Horseshoe lake and Devil's well Thursday was made interesting by an unexpected hornet nest that happened to be located directly in the path of a number of the boys who failed to escape "unbitten", coutnered when they attempted to ford the lake in a narrow place and found that it was too deep. The boys were forced to throw off their clothes and swim across. Leon Woodrow, one of the leaders, was one of t he principal "heroes" of this event. On Thursday evening Bill Sanders, camp cook, gave the boys an interesting account of his experiences in France and Germany. "We expect a big camp next week," Mr. Ghormley stated. "Two old camp men, Aubrey Roberts and Mont Downing, are going out this evening with me to act as leaders for the 35 boys to leave for camp Monday morning. William Worthington will also go out as a leader to take his palce of Jack Bradley, who is coming in. A number of boys are expected from Cheney, Colville, and Deer Park and with the large crowd this wek we will have a full program of sports and hikes. There is still time for the boys to sign up if they want to go out. The boys are all in good health and we have had no accidents with the exceptions of the hornet trouble."
