LAWYERS OPPOSE
CHANGES IN COURT
Oregon Bar Against Plan,
1383 to 266
Members of the Oregon bar are
preponderantly opposed to President Roosevelt's proposed supreme
court changes, returns yesterday
from a state-wide plebiscite showed.
The state's legal fraternity voted
1383 against the proposed change
and 266 in favor of it, in a poll conducted by the Oregon state bar.
F. M. Sercombe, bar secretary;
Frank P. Kennan and John A.
Beckwith canvassed the poll and
announced that 83.87 per cent of
the 1649 attorneys participating in
the balloting voted against the
changes.
Results of the poll will be sent
to members of the Oregon delegation in congress and to other public
officials.
Recently the Multnomah County
Bar association voted 87 to 17
against the changes suggested by
the president.
