BEE MEN IN ORGANIZATION
UMATILLA APIARISTS MEET AT
HERMISTON.
HERMISTON, Ore.—The bee men of
the Umatilla river valley or water
shed have formed an association
"which they have named the Umatilla
Valley Apiarists. At the meeting held
here the following officers were
elected: George A. Cressy of Hermis-
ton, president; Lloyd Riches of Stan-
field, secretary, and J. C. Barham of
Hermiston, treasurer. A committee on
legislation was appointed and the association will ask the next legislature to
pass a law providing for inspection of
apiaries for diseases.
The present output of the bee industry under this association's territory
is 200,000 pounds and is rapidly increasing. The marketing of this product will be one of the purposes of the
organization. The permanent headquarters of the association was chosen as
the civic center of Hermiston. The
prospects for the honey industry in
this vicinity are considered very bright
and nearly every farmer is getting a
few hives of bees as well as those who
are making the apiary their chief oc-
cupation.
