Cowley family forced to quit Indian mission |
Description |
Cowley family forced to quit Indian mission. / by Dr. Clifford M. Drury. It appears that the Presbytery of Oregon, meeting at Albany in November, 1872, appointed a new superintendent of instruction at the Lapwai Indian agency, thus relieving H. H. Spalding of this responsibility. Official reports for the church at large stated that this would give Spalding more time for his preaching. The facts not reported were the Monteith, the Indian agent at Lapwai, had insisted upon a new man for that office. Rev. George Ainslie was appointed and took up his duties in November, 1872. It appears that Spalding went to Kamiah. |
