Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
In Matsura's self-titled postcard , the coarse material to which he refers are not the workers , but rather , large rocks brought to the dam site by dump wagons . Workmen , such as the two men sitting for this photo , broke down rocks too large to be brought from the borrow pit to the dam site via flumes . These rocks collected into levees that formed the dam's embankments .
