Description
This photograph shows the progress made by the town since its incorporation in 1907 . Notice the woman is walking on sidewalk . Improvement work on the roads began in earnest in 1909 , with the city completing over 3,000 running feet of sidewalk , and developing a uniform grade on many of the main streets . Notice also the telephone pole . Okanogan received its first telephone service in 1908 , with the Okanogan County Telephone Company , which reached from Riverside to Omak . By 1909 , Okanogan had its own company , the Okanogan Telephone and Telegraph Company , and over fifty phones within the city limits .
