Description |
The entire school body stands outside the eight-room brick schoolhouse sometime around 1912. The first four rooms were built in 1907, on land donated by Mrs. V W Grainger. Prior to this building, students attended school in a small structure located near the Alma Roller Mills, a local flour mill. Four additional rooms were added to the west side of the building in the summer of 1910. The teacher on the far right is Mrs. Nora Snider Freeman. Her list of students for the 1911-1912 school year: 5th grade: Loren Duley, Fred Dunham, Ernest Forkel, John Franz, Wesley McHugh, Stanley Meeker (who died June 1914), Henry Pein, John Pein, Haroll Russell, Wallace Strahan, Louie Timmrick, Mamie Cook, Maude Hilliard, Helen Hopkins, Blance Irwin, Mae Irwin, Florence Landers, Charlotte Rhodes, Doris Schrock, Sarah Russell, Marie Shaller, Pearl Stromgren, Marion Sweet, Florence Wilson. 6th grade: Iva Prince, Florence Shull, Eugene Colvin, Herbert Colvin, Walter Cook, Dewey Craig, Francis McCauley, Glen Newman, Robert Savage, Edgar Stickles, Stanley Snyder, Virgil Wagner, Elizabeth Ayers, Minnie Cook, Blanche Haney, Helen Kreger, Emma Landers, Mildred Mintzer, Ethel Schrock. |
