Description
Baseball was the sport of choice in Okanogan County , taken so seriously that betting on the games became a significant problem . In 1909 , the team was attempting to find a new place for a baseball diamond , their former lot being reclaimed for residences . In 1910 Mrs . Virginia Grainger-Herrmann agreed to give the team a plot on the section of town known as Alta Vista Terrace . There was a string of cottonwoods for shade , and plenty of room to transfer and expand upon their 100 seating capacity grandstand . This picture appeared on the front page of the Okanogan Independent May 14 , 1909 . Standing left to right : Will Collins , Willis Lobdell , Reuben Rodemeyer , Sam Nelson (manager) , Harry E .
