Matsura , Frank , 1873-1913 .
Description
An image of farmland under development in Okanogan , Washington . In the foreground you can see a fence and a broken down shack (left bottom corner) . This land might be the seven hundred acre experimental/modern orchard of the Boston and Washington Apple Orchard Association led by William Mears of Boston , Massachusetts . Investing in property at Tarheel Flat , a bench overlooking the townsite of Malott , WA , Mears hired the top horticulturists of the region to oversee the planting of the best apple varieties in 1910--varieties such as Spitzenberg , Delicious , Rome Beauty , Stayman Winesap , Winesap and Jonathan .
