Description
A street scene showing Second Avenue in downtown Okanogan , circa 1912 . Note the water sprinkler in the center and right of the picture , used for watering down dusty streets . Painted a cheerful green and yellow , the sprinkler held 600 gallons of water and refilled using the town's fire hydrants . There is a hydrant on the right hand side , located on the corner of Second Avenue and Pine Street . On this corner of the block the matrons of the community ran a public library . A sign for the real estate business of Pratt , Forsyth and Lee , is visible next to the sprinkling tank , as well as signs for a bakery , the First National Bank , and the Hotel Oxford .
