Description
On July 3rd , 1911 , as prelude to the Fourth of July celebrations , Okanogan invited nearby towns to a centennial flag raising at the site of the original Fort Okanogan Trading Post of the Hudson Bay Company . Among the ceremony's participants were, from left to right : Bob Hargrove of Conconully (derby hat) , John Myers of Conconully , Mr . Baptis of Wenatchee , George Fisher--cashier of the First National Bank of Wenatchee , and H.M . Hale , supervisor of the Chelan Forest . William C . Brown of Okanogan stands directly behind two boys . The woman in a dark hat and holding her automobile wrap is Mrs . Alma (Kahlow) Hansen , wife of Mr . C.E . Hansen the riverboat captain . The man directly left of the flagpole is Mr . H.H . Gilstrap of the Washington State Historical Society in Tacoma . To the right of the flagpole is Reverend Edwin Ells , the first male settler born in Washington Territory . Behind him are Okanogan elders Jason Gard and Mayor Harry J . Kerr . Sitting at the wheel of his EMF automobile is Captain C . E . Hansen and in the other EMF is Mr . Folmsbee of Okanogan , his wife sitting alongside of him. The post was located 1/2 mile from the Okanogan River's mouth on the east side .
